Bikers
Fighting Cancer (BFC) is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt non-profit
charitable organization of motorcycle enthusiasts who
help children with cancer. Started in 2002, the club has
grown steadily, with chapters throughout the Pacific NW
and West Coast.
As
an all-volunteer group, Bikers Fighting Cancer ensures
that 100% of donations go to support the emotional and
financial needs of children with cancer.
Bikers
Fighting Cancer members come from all walks of life, and
volunteer their time and energy for the children we serve.
Cancer doesnt discriminate, and we dont either;
the BFC proudly accepts motorcycle enthusiasts of any
gender, age group and ethnicity who have an interest in
helping children with cancer.
The
idea for Bikers Fighting Cancer was born in Southern California
when Patrick Chemo Healy was diagnosed with
Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. While going through treatments
he met an extraordinary 11-year-old boy named Ray, who
was battling a brain tumor. Ray told Pat hed always
wanted to be in a motorcycle club, and both decided there
was no time like the present to start their own.
Ray,
who designed our Ban the Grim Reaper vest
patch and motto Never Give Up, passed away
at age 12 and was buried in his vest and BFC patch.
Patrick
Healy, a cancer survivor, is now National President of
Bikers Fighting Cancer, and helps to get new chapters
started and keep us focused on our mission to help children
with cancer.
Cancer is the second
leading cause of death in children, and the need for help
is great.
One out of every
330 children under age 20 will develop cancer according
to the American Cancer Society's publication, Cancer
Facts and Figures 2009.
